Riley Galvin

School Director

Ms. Galvin is the Director of Great Oaks High School and Career Center and a passionate advocate for students and the Des Moines community. A proud Eastsider, Ms. Galvin has spent the past 11 years serving students and families across Des Moines, building strong relationships and working to uplift the community she calls home.

Ms. Galvin’s experience in education spans a wide range of grade levels and student needs. She has taught students from preschool through high school and has extensive experience in special education and behavior intervention. This broad background has shaped her belief that every student deserves individualized support, high expectations, and opportunities to succeed.

Ms. Galvin earned her bachelor’s degree in Elementary Education and Instructional Strategist I from Iowa State University—Go Cyclones!—and later received her master’s degree in Urban Education and Leadership from Drake University. She is also completing a linsure in Clinical Marriage and Family Therapy, further strengthening her commitment to supporting the whole child and the families and systems that surround them.

As Director of Great Oaks High School and Career Center, Ms. Galvin is dedicated to creating a school environment where students feel supported, challenged, and empowered. She believes deeply that no student should fall behind or be defined by past circumstances. Under her leadership, Great Oaks focuses on helping students complete their high school diploma, build career-ready skills, and access real-world opportunities that open doors for their future.

Ms. Galvin believes that when schools invest in the whole child—academically, socially, and emotionally—students can transform their lives and become powerful contributors to their communities. At Great Oaks, she is committed to ensuring that every student has the support, guidance, and opportunities they need to succeed beyond high school.
